Need
to bring your school community together?
Create your unique school anthem in a day...!
David
Mowat and Johnny Mars, musicians in the highly successful King Cotton
COSTA community project, who’ve just finished facilitating the
City Academy Bristol anthem, can help your school create its very
own. It’s a great way to increase a sense of belonging in your
school, by inspiring students to write, arrange, rap or sing their
creation, using contemporary idioms and lasting for years to come!
Use this project together with 'sing
up'
Expert
singers from ‘Sing Up Communities’ could follow up this
initiative to teach the whole school to really sing out the anthem
and embody its positive values (David has made contact with Sing Up
Bristol. Nationally try www.singup.org)
-
An
ideal event for one to several classes, the day typically would
involve
Lyric writing, exploring the school community’s positive features,
diversity, environmental awareness and how children overcome adversity
and develop perseverance
-
Composition
(rhythm, melody and percussion)
-
Harmonica
learning from an African-American blues maestro
-
Art
session, for CD cover ( printed digital photos of paintings)
Rehearsal
-
Recorded
performance to parents at end of day, and production of master CD,
with the option of a fully mixed, engineered product later
